Sound of Music/23rd Army Band

On Friday night I went to the Empress with my friend Heather to see The Sound of Music.  It was pretty good!  My friend Juli's sister was Maria.  I have always loved that musical!  I would say tat I highly recommend you go see it, but alas it ended last night.  :(  Oh well I enjoyed it for you!

Then last night I went to an amazing performance at Temple Square!  It was the 23rd Army Band.  They were so awesome!  They had one song called the concerto for cell phones which used different ring tones with the phones.  haha nice!  At the end one man sang God bless the USA which is one of my favorites!  I absolutely LOVE that song!  It really fits my goal for a college education.  I am SO proud to be an American!  I don't know what i would even do if we did not live in this great land.  So many people take it for granted when I don't think they realize what a blessing it is to have this great land in our possession.  A couple weeks ago I had to write an essay for drivers ed about what drives me.  I feel like this would be a good time to share it.
It can be a compelling task when deciding what you want to do with the rest of your life. Some people want to be doctors or maybe even a plumber, but what do you do when you aren’t interested in any of that? You look at medicine, maybe even try fixing a drain pipe, but it just doesn’t drive you. That’s when you try things that may not be so popular with people your age. This is exactly what happened to me. I tried to get into the different things that all of my friends were into, but I just wasn’t driven like they were. That’s when I decided to try something totally different than theirs. I decided to try politics. I got involved in an election and it is like eating chocolate, I’ve had a bite and I want more. I’m hooked!

I want to major in political science after I graduate. I find politics so thrilling and exciting! The learning process is so fun. Why political science? With the economy crashing down and our nation’s debt rising sky high I feel the desire to help it stop and put our country back on track. How I plan to do that is not to get elected into office and cut spending’s, it’s merely teaching people. I want to teach other’s what our country is really all about. A lot of people see politics as all anger, debates, and frustration. I want to help them see beyond that. I want them to know what kinds of people we need to get us back on track and heading in the right direction, so we can get those people in office. The American people need to know how our country works and how it got started. My plan of getting to that point does not start at college, it starts at home. Why wait for school to learn? I love to pull out my copy of the Constitution and read it and study it.

When I got involved in the election I participated in numerous things. I did door knocking, phone calls, I put up signs, went to events, and did Honk and Waves. I discovered that I had made such a difference that I wanted to keep going. What a great feeling it is when you help out and get involved and especially when all your hard work pays off.

Through doing all of this I really discovered my passion in my life. All the debt that is rising right now is going to be handed to my generation. We will have to pay the price for the actions of today’s generation. We will not be able to get out of this debt if we do not know how to do it and that is why I am going to help make sure we do know how when that time comes.
I know this great land  was inspired by a loving Heavenly Father who knew that we needed a safe place to dwell.  The Constitution is definitely inspired by him!    I am so grateful that he not only cared enough for all of his children, but he cared enough for me to build this great nation!  I hope this 4th of July weekend you really think about what a privilege it is to live in this great land and that you think about what it took to build it up.  I promise that if we all were to read and study the Constitution of the United States and imply it into our lives that things will change!  We can really get our country back on track just by having people know and understand what out Constitution stands for!  Please take this and really do it!  It was a life changing experience for me.  It may not be one for you, but it will help you in the future when our country is really hanging on by a bare thread.  I hope you were able to make it through all of this.  If you have thanks.  It means a lot!
